PM Modi's mother Heeraben Modi dies at the age of 100
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben Modi passed away at the age of 100 on 30/12/2022 at 3:39 am (morning), while undergoing treatment at UN Mehta Heart Hospital," the hospital where she was admitted since Wednesday.
Informing about her death, the Prime Minister Modi posted a heartfelt tweet early this morning, "A glorious century rests at the feet of God... In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values."
Heeraben Modi lived with PM Modi's younger brother Pankaj Modi in Raisan village near Gandhinagar. The Prime Minister regularly visited Raison and spent time with his mother during most of his visits to Gujarat.
She was admitted to the super specialty UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center on Wednesday morning due to some health issues. The hospital authorities had said on Thursday that her condition was improving. The Gujarat Chief Minister's Office (CMO) had also said in a statement that Heeraben would be discharged soon. Earlier on Thursday, people of 'Dharma Yatra Mahasangh' in Vadodara, Gujarat offered prayers at the temple and chanted 'Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra' for the 'good health' of PM Modi's mother. Earlier in the day, the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee also prayed for Heeraben's speedy recovery.
Meanwhile, PM Modi, who was scheduled to visit West Bengal to launch developmental projects, may join the programs through video conferencing, reported news agency ANI citing sources. According to sources, PM Modi has left for Ahmedabad.
Hiraben Modi was born in a small village in Gujarat and married Modi's father, Damodardas Mulchand Modi, at a young age. She was a devoted wife and mother, and raised Modi and his brother, Pankaj, with traditional values and a strong work ethic. Hiraben was known for her simplicity and humility, and was deeply religious. She instilled in Modi a love for his culture and a strong sense of moral values.
Modi often speaks about his mother's influence on his life and credits her for his strong character and determination. In his speeches, he has referred to her as a source of inspiration and a role model. He has described her as a woman of great strength and resilience, who faced many challenges in her life but always remained positive and focused.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, PM Modi wrote, "A glorious century rests at the feet of God."
Sharing her picture, the prime minister wrote, “In Maa I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values.”
He added, “When I met her on her 100th birthday, she said one thing - Always remembered - Work with intelligence, live life with purity.”
Union Home Minister Amit Sah wrote, "Saddened to know about the demise of respected Mataji Hira Ba. Mother is the first friend and teacher of a person's life, the pain of losing whom is undoubtedly the biggest pain in the world."
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, "I am deeply saddened by the passing away of Hira Ba, Matashree. The death of a mother leaves such a void in one's life that is impossible to fill. I express my condolences to the Prime Minister and his entire family in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!" (sic)
